HAWK’S NEST
The design for this single-family home in Frederick County, Maryland was influenced heavily by a site that features dramatic grade changes and multiple large rock outcroppings that date to the Cambrian era. A traditional concrete foundation partially buried into the upper slope anchors the north side, while columns allow the southern spaces to extend above the existing limestone, shale and phyllite structures.
Divided into three sections — a main living hub at the center, an entertaining wing to the west, and a private bedroom wing to the east — each is connected via enclosed bridges that allow for site lines or passage underneath.
